Political Views

Candidates in Colorado Springs nonpartisan municipal elections are not officially nominated by a political party.  How would you describe your political philosophies (socially, fiscally, etc.,) and how will they guide you decision making as a City Councilperson?

Experience and Vision

What personal and professional experience would you bring to the role as Councilperson that will benefit our city?  What is your vision for City Council, and what do you most hope to accomplish during your first year in office?

Constitutional Liberties

Many Americans across the political spectrum believe that the government at every level is not securing their Constitutional rights that are endowed by our Creator, but rather are encroaching on them.  Some even refer to it as a “Constitutional crisis”.  Established freedoms, including that of speech, peaceable assembly, exercise of religion, right to keep and bear arms, medical autonomy, and commerce are often negatively impacted by State and Federal regulations, much of which occurred due to COVID-19 mandates.  As a Councilperson, how will you protect Colorado Springs residents from government overreach and infringement of Constitutional rights?

Utilities and Infrastructure

Colorado Springs City Council members also serve on the Board of Colorado Springs Utilities.  How do you plan to (1) shield residents and businesses from accelerated rate hikes now that the Martin Drake Power Plant has been decommissioned and there is a shift to renewable energy sources, and (2) address the future water and reliable power needs of Colorado Springs as our city continues to grow?

Crime and Police

How do you think Colorado Springs compares with similarly-sized cities in terms of crime rates, authorized and actual police numbers, and emergency call response times?  What can our City Council do to assist the CSPD in reducing crime and meeting its call response times, recruitment, and other goals in order to ensure citizens are adequately protected?

Protecting the Most Vulnerable:

As a Councilmember, how will you seek to ensure the protection of the most vulnerable in our city, including the lives of the unborn, victims of trafficking, and the elderly?

Managing Growth

Should the City Council work to bring more businesses and jobs to Colorado Springs; and if so, how, and what kind of jobs?  What factors would you consider before deciding to approve or disapprove of zoning changes or annexation?

Housing

As more and more people move to Colorado Springs, what can be done to ensure sufficient housing options, while retaining our city’s unique character and environment which have made it such a popular place to live?

Homelessness

Colorado Springs has experienced an increase in homeless camps in recent years, often associated with illegal drug use, dumping, and grass fires.  How can the City Council help to reduce homelessness in our city in ways that best serve all Colorado Springs residents?

Drug Use in Our Community

What are your views regarding the recent legalization of recreational Marijuana in Colorado Springs and the decriminalization of Psilocybin-containing mushrooms and other psychedelic drugs in Colorado, and the current City Council’s attempts to limit both within city limits?  Also, with an ongoing Opioid and Fentanyl crisis, what do you think should be done to protect our city and its residents, and especially our youth, from the negative impacts of both legal and illegal drug use and abuse?

Engagement with the Faith Community

Colorado Springs has a diverse and well-established religious community and is home to hundreds of local churches and international ministries.  What is your current engagement with the local faith community, and how do you plan to interact with and represent constituents in your role as a City Councilperson?

Political Views

Candidates in Colorado Springs nonpartisan municipal elections are not officially nominated by a political party.  How would you describe your political philosophies (socially, fiscally, etc.), and how will they guide you decision making as a City Councilperson?

I believe in putting people above party. Government should be efficient, not unnecessarily big or small. Leaning too far left or right only deepens division—we need solutions that bring us together. I prioritize community-focused decision-making that ensures fiscal responsibility, public safety, and economic growth without unnecessary government interference.

Experience and Vision

What personal and professional experience would you bring to the role as Councilperson that will benefit our city?  What is your vision for City Council, and what do you most hope to accomplish during your first year in office?

As the daughter of the first Korean female Chief Warrant Officer Five in the U.S. Army, service is in my DNA. I lead the Colorado Springs Black Chamber of Commerce, co-chair the Military Spouse Community Coalition, and serve on several boards, including The Independence Center and the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC.

City Council should work as a team. My vision is to be a part of a team that strengthens economic development, ensures public safety, and advocates for smart growth. In my first year, I’ll focus on fostering partnerships, improving infrastructure, and will pay special attention to working with the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority to learn more about how we can improve infrastructure within the Southeast.

Government overreach threatens our freedoms, and local leaders must push back when necessary. I will advocate for policies that respect individual rights while balancing public safety and community well-being. Regulations should be carefully considered to protect freedoms, not restrict them.

We must work with the state to highlight the financial burden of aggressive decarbonization mandates that drive up rates. Slower transitions to renewable energy allow for cost-effective solutions. Water is a critical resource; it should be respected not feared. CSU continues to work on water right acquisitions and long term water strategy. As a CSU board of director, I will be a part of the team that continues to educate state regulators so that we can manage reliability and cost targets.

I’m committed to working with our CSPD so that we can find solutions to better resource our first responders. I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the Police Protective Association. This is a positive first step in our partnership to work within our district to ensure that crime rates continue to decrease, reduce response time, and build relationships within our community. As a city council member, I am committed to communicating regularly with our police leadership, hosting joint community and/or education events, and inviting our officers to community events.

Protecting the Most Vulnerable

As a Councilmember, how will you seek to ensure the protection of the most vulnerable in our city, including the lives of the unborn, victims of trafficking, and the elderly?

As a caregiver for my now-deceased grandmother and as someone with a god-sister who was trafficked, I take protecting the vulnerable seriously. I’d also like to acknowledge that our vulnerable populations include not only the unborn, trafficked, and elderly but also extend to our military and veteran-connected community, as well as individuals with disabilities, to name just a few. We need strong public-private partnerships with organizations like The Independence Center, on whose board I sit, to support our most vulnerable populations. Additionally, we must serve as resource navigators for our community. It is essential to recognize that it takes a village, and we are fortunate to live in a city that prides itself on the power of community and collaboration.

Managing Growth

Should the City Council work to bring more businesses and jobs to Colorado Springs; and if so, how, and what kind of jobs?  What factors would you consider before deciding to approve or disapprove of zoning changes or annexation?

Our city is small business friendly. The home of multiple chambers and several business collaboration networks, we need to continue this work and leverage our Economic Development Office to attract industries that strengthen our economy. Zoning and annexation decisions should be data-driven, ensuring responsible growth without overburdening city services like police, fire, and utilities, while maintaining our quality of life.

Housing

As more and more people move to Colorado Springs, what can be done to ensure sufficient housing options, while retaining our city’s unique character and environment which have made it such a popular place to live?

To accommodate growth while preserving Colorado Springs’ unique character, we must balance smart development, affordability, and sustainability. Encouraging mixed-use and infill development can increase housing options without excessive sprawl. Public-private partnerships should expand workforce and affordable housing, including Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). We must rely on our housing subject matter experts like those at Pikes Peak Housing Network to address our housing challenges. By integrating strategies at many levels, we can ensure Colorado Springs remains a desirable, livable city for all, blending progress with the natural beauty and character that make it special.

Homelessness

Colorado Springs has experienced an increase in homeless camps in recent years, often associated with illegal drug use, dumping, and grass fires.  How can the City Council help to reduce homelessness in our city in ways that best serve all Colorado Springs residents?

Homelessness is complex and requires layered solutions. There are different types of homelessness—hidden, transitional, episodic, and chronic. Most people start at hidden homelessness. As someone who has experienced hidden homelessness, I know early intervention changes lives. We need a multifaceted approach that can reach our homeless population in whatever state of homelessness they are in a holistic way.

Voter decisions should be honored. Our citizens made a choice regarding recreational marijuana and democracy should be upheld. The increase in community members using drugs, alcohol, and other legal and illegal substances as a coping mechanism is concerning. Education on the dangers of substance use abuse and creating environments where youth can thrive are key to breaking cycles of addiction before they start. In the cases where addiction has already taken root, it’s important to work within the city’s purview to ensure that our co-responder teams (mental health professionals + first responders) are able to handle addiction-related calls with care, champion for affordable housing to reduce homelessness caused by addiction, and provide Narcan training and distribution to prevent overdose.

Engagement with the Faith Community

Colorado Springs has a diverse and well-established religious community and is home to hundreds of local churches and international ministries.  What is your current engagement with the local faith community, and how do you plan to interact with and represent constituents in your role as a City Councilperson?

My faith is central to my life, and church and Bible study are part of my self-care. Faith-based organizations are vital community partners, and I am committed to engaging with them to better understand and address the needs of our city.

Occupation/Vocation:  Mother

Resident of Colorado Springs:  5 years in district 4, Lived in Colorado Springs since 2015

Political Views

Candidates in Colorado Springs nonpartisan municipal elections are not officially nominated by a political party.  How would you describe your political philosophies (socially, fiscally, etc.), and how will they guide you decision making as a City Councilperson?

I believe that my political philosophies align first and foremost with my beliefs as a believer in Jesus and secondly with the founding document that set up our nation, which is the Constitution. These two things will guide my decision making as a city councilperson. I will also defend taxpayers rights and work to ensure that the board is being fiscally responsible in all matters concerning taxes.

Experience and Vision

What personal and professional experience would you bring to the role as Councilperson that will benefit our city?  What is your vision for City Council, and what do you most hope to accomplish during your first year in office?

My vision is to make sure that the City Council is constantly looking to address and deal with root causes of issues that exist within our city and district. As a councilperson my goal is to reduce poverty, create a safe environment for our residents and bring in the necessary infrastructure for our growing community. District 4 will become a land of opportunity again for each resident, allowing us to create a generational pipeline of success. As a mothers raising my family in this district I see that the real issue of poverty hasn’t been addressed but that the state of poverty has become widely accepted. If it remains our district won’t see the needed improvements that benefit all residents.

As a councilperson I will use the legal resources available to city council to ensure that the residents of Colorado Springs are protected against government overreach. Being that our city has Home Rule, we are well within our rights to push back against state and federal regulations, and when elected I will make sure we do just that.

Shielding residents from accelerated rate hikes comes from proper planning and collaboration. City Council has already approved the CSU 5 year rate plan which starts in 2025. However the city council does review the annual budget and the rates each year. As a council person I’ll work diligently to look through the budget each year to ensure that rates are steadily being added in ways that are manageable for the majority of residents, taking into consideration the current economy. I’ll also make sure the assistant programs offered are easily obtainable to those in need. I will also push to make sure that we have the right experts collaborating on important issues so that we are properly planning for the future.

Public Safety is my number one priority as it will allow my district to thrive. Colorado Springs is similar to Aurora, CO in terms of crime rates, police size and in some cases response time. In order to cut down on response times in Colorado Springs I believe the City Council should prioritize deep diving into CSPD in order to fully support the police as well as ensure our community is getting the care it needs to keep each resident safe in moments of emergency. That means looking at operating systems, budget, dispatch protocols, how the police bureau has categorized districts as well as analyzing the crime and the sources of crime in our city.

Protecting the Most Vulnerable

As a Councilmember, how will you seek to ensure the protection of the most vulnerable in our city, including the lives of the unborn, victims of trafficking, and the elderly?

We must take a hard stance against poverty in our city and work to reduce it so our elders have the care they need, expectant parents are financially capable, and so potential human trafficking victims won’t seek out employment that results in them being taken advantage of. While working with an anti-human trafficking organization I learned that poverty creates opportunities for injustice and abuse. In order to protect those most vulnerable in our city we must ask why they are in these positions to begin with and how we can work to prevent these scenarios, while at the same time making sure the abuse of the most vulnerable can’t just happen so easily.

Managing Growth

Should the City Council work to bring more businesses and jobs to Colorado Springs; and if so, how, and what kind of jobs?  What factors would you consider before deciding to approve or disapprove of zoning changes or annexation?

Yes, growing properly and having a strong economy should always be at the forefront of city councils’ minds. When considering zoning changes and annexation I’ll alway push for a fair standard for all involved and the facts that ensure we are growing responsibly. In order to have a strong economy we need to have jobs with growth potential and more businesses. We begin by asking what needs to be produced, how will it be produced, and how will the output produced be distributed? We build a strong economy through a strong workforce, and we do this by making sure we have a diverse workforce all over the city that have the tools and support to build wealth.

Housing

As more and more people move to Colorado Springs, what can be done to ensure sufficient housing options, while retaining our city’s unique character and environment which have made it such a popular place to live?

As a city councilperson it will be my responsibility to keep a pulse on the actual growth numbers of our city as well as the projected numbers. I believe development of various housing options is inevitable however we must be mindful about what types of builds are needed when and where. We must also utilize all of our tools in our city council tool box as well as innovation to create the best possible communities that preserve our city’s character, culture and accomplish its intended purpose.

Homelessness

Colorado Springs has experienced an increase in homeless camps in recent years, often associated with illegal drug use, dumping, and grass fires.  How can the City Council help to reduce homelessness in our city in ways that best serve all Colorado Springs residents?

I believe homelessness has become a topic that has been overgeneralized and under explored. In order for us to really solve the issue of homelessness, just like with many of our major issues in the city, we must take a deeper look at what are the root causes behind the homeless we have in our city. We cannot shy away from the work it takes to fix these major issues. By taking a closer look, we can begin to fix the problem that is steadily becoming a crisis in our city. In this way we can also identify true solutions like sit-lie ordinances.

I believe our community again needs to take up a hard stance against all recreational drugs. By becoming a city that embraces recreational drug use and even allowing those drug sales to fund our schools we are sending the wrong message to a very smart and observant generation, that drugs are okay as long as a profit is made. I understand the medical need for some of these drugs and I believe that the acceptance of these drugs in that capacity should be clearly defined. In order to keep our community safe we need clear standards on what is good and beneficial to one’s pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Engagement with the Faith Community

Colorado Springs has a diverse and well-established religious community and is home to hundreds of local churches and international ministries.  What is your current engagement with the local faith community, and how do you plan to interact with and represent constituents in your role as a City Councilperson?

Currently I am active in my church, and believe strongly in prayer. Each Saturday, I go out into the community with my church to pray over various places in the city of Colorado Springs. I believe the church is more than just a place for us to gather and be equipped and it’s more than just a place for the community to come in times of material need. The church is the key to our city’s success. I plan to interact with constituents by continuously praying for the city. Engaging with the faith community, becoming very proactive in meeting with community leaders, and community members to bring unity and collaboration.

Christian voting

Voting is a simple, yet significant way to do something about public policy in our country. As people of faith, we will be held accountable for our actions, as well as our lack of action. (Luke 12:48)

Biblical worldview

By diligently learning, applying, and trusting God’s truths in every area of our lives, we can begin to develop a deep comprehensive faith that will stand against the unrelenting tide of our culture’s non-biblical ideas.

Vote your values

The issues of the day change. Political parties and platforms change. God’s Word never changes. The vote of every Christian should be based on the principles of Scripture and not persuasive personalities.

Electing righteous leaders

Bad governance and our loss of freedom is the direct result of the church’s failure to disciple. When the citizenry do not seek to be obedient to God’s Law, they vote in wicked and corrupt candidates, who then trample underfoot the God-given liberties of the people.
