Political Leanings

As a candidate in a nonpartisan School Board election, you are not officially associated with any specific political party.  How would you describe your political leanings (socially, fiscally, etc.) and why do you define yourself in this way?

I am generally conservative, and I strive to live by the values of compassion, integrity and wisdom. As a veteran who spent 21 years in the military, I have learned how to work well with anyone who is interested in helping me accomplish the mission. Our students and district deserve that same commitment from its leaders. I’m running for D-11 School Board to give every student a high-quality education that prepares them to thrive in our community and nation. I am willing to work with others in pursuit of that goal.

Your Experience and Vision

What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as School Board Member that will benefit your district?  What is your vision to help ensure the highest quality education for your district’s students?

I am a retired military officer and Air Force Academy English professor. I have been on a D-20 school board for five years, so I also bring experience in governance, budget oversight, and academic improvement. My vision is three-part. First, we need to raise academic proficiency by retaining the best teachers, culling unnecessary curriculum, offering targeted professional development, and giving frequent feedback. Second, forge new work force pathways. Not every student needs or wants a 4- year degree. We can partner with local businesses to create direct-hire pathways in other areas like coding, cyber, construction, EMT, electrical and aviation certifications. Third, we need to enhance campus safety, from lock downs to locker rooms.

Improving Schools

What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools?  What would you maintain or change?

The primary strengths of D-11 are strong leaders who represent the values of our community, compassionate teachers who care for students, and families that want what is best for their kids. The weaknesses are poor academic achievement and declining enrollment. My main focus is raising academic achievement and growth. We cannot let another school year go by where we graduate students who cannot read or write at grade level. When academic proficiency improves, this will help drive enrollment up.

Curriculum

What types of curricula, including library books and materials, if any, do you believe should be added or removed from your district’s schools?  Why?

The D-11 curriculum, including library books, needs to be age-appropriate and focused on the fundamentals. Schools should be transparent about what they put on the shelves and parents need to stay engaged so they know what their children can access. We need to protect the innocence of our children and allow parents to have more oversight and choice of what our children learn at school.

Financial Stewardship

Depending on the size of their district, School Board Members decide how to spend $10s of millions of dollars, or even $100s of millions, in taxpayer money each year.  How would you seek to prioritize the funds being stewarded by your district’s School Board?

Over my 21 years in the military, I managed millions of taxpayer dollars. Being a good steward of our resources requires making difficult decisions. Every dollar must go toward the mission of providing high-quality academic instruction by keeping dollars close to the classroom.

Technology

What do you believe is the proper balance of a student’s use of technology in education  —  such as cell phone use during school hours and incorporating artificial intelligence?

Cell phone use is a distraction and D-11 made the appropriate choice to eliminate cell phones during the school day. However, the future (business, education, defense, etc.) is being driven by AI, so we should intentionally teach students how to integrate it into their education in ways that improve student learning and set them up for success. They need to understand algorithms, inputs, and ethics and that should start as early as kindergarten. I am a Girl Scout Troop leader, and we just did a lesson on coding for children ages 5 through 12. Even our youngest girls understood the idea of an algorithm. If we teach it to them early, they will learn how to use it properly.

Parental Role

What do you consider to be a parent’s role in a child’s education?  Do you believe that any information about a student should ever be withheld from a parent?

No. Parents entrust D-11 with the protection of their children every day, and it is vital that we be good stewards of that trust. D-11 should be completely transparent with parents with everything from curriculum to contentious social questions that are often better learned in the privacy of their own home. Parents have the right to know what their kids may be exposed to, so they can make informed decisions about their children’s maturity level and readiness to engage with certain material.

Sex Ed

Why do you support or oppose comprehensive sexuality education, including LGBT health and relationship information, in public schools K to 12?  What are your positions regarding age appropriateness, curriculum transparency, and opt-in or -out policies?

Education should be age appropriate, schools should be transparent on what they wish to teach, and parents, who know their children best, should have the option to opt-in or -out. Sex-ed can and should teach our children to understand, respect, and protect our bodies without teaching an ideological worldview. As a parent, I want the right to opt-in or -out every time my child is exposed to state-led lessons about sexuality.

Gender Issues

What are your views on gender issues in schools, including the use of preferred pronouns, discussing gender issues in the classroom, allowing students to use facilities and participate in sports activities not of their biological gender, and compliance with federal directives and law regarding gender issues?

Students should participate in sports that match their biological gender or that have provisions for allowing safe, appropriate co-ed participation. The privacy of our students must be respected; I do not support mixed locker rooms, facilities, or boys playing girls sports.

School Safety

As a School Board member, what changes would you want to make, if any, to help ensure a safe and secure environment for both the students and staff of your district?

The number one concern for parents is that we drop our children off at school and they are safe throughout the day when we cannot protect them. Safety ranges from physical campus safety through responsible SRO programs, to building security, to first aid, to fire drills and even lightning safety during sports practice. Safety also applies to psychological matters from preventing bullying, to making sure kids feel safe in locker rooms, to using age-appropriate curriculum material. I helped build a safety and security plan at a K-8 school, so I would bring that expertise to D-11.

School Board Meetings

What do you consider to be the appropriate balance between the authority of School Boards and the rights of the public to present their views during School Board meetings?

School Boards and citizens both have the right to attend, speak, and present at public meetings. I am in favor of public citizens speaking at Board meetings, respectful dialogue, and the First Amendment. I am also in favor of following the agenda, regulations, and timeframes.

Teachers' Unions

Earlier this year, D11 did not renew its teachers’ union master agreement contract, after establishing it nearly 60 years ago. What, if any, do you believe the role of teachers’ unions should be in public education?

I believe politics do not belong the classroom, and far too often teachers’ unions push a political program more than they advocate for teachers. The master contract tied the district’s hands when they wanted to raise wages and incentivize teachers to work in lower performing schools. D-11 should have a collaborative relationship with all of its teachers. The union often hinders rather than helps that relationship

Occupation/Vocation:     Small Business Owner

Resident of Pikes Peak Region & District:   10 years in the region, 8 years in the

district, and I was born in Colorado Springs.

Political Leanings

As a candidate in a nonpartisan School Board election, you are not officially associated with any specific political party.  How would you describe your political leanings (socially, fiscally, etc.) and why do you define yourself in this way?

I’m socially and economically conservative and believe in small government. I’m a Christian and I try hard not to judge other people, especially considering the challenging world we all live in. George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Dwight Eisenhower are my hero’s.

Your Experience and Vision

What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as School Board Member that will benefit your district?  What is your vision to help ensure the highest quality education for your district’s students?

I’ve been involved in the district since my oldest kid was in kindergarten. Until recently I’d been along-time member of the DAC and my school’s SAC where my outsider-perspective has engendered thoughtful and positive debate. I’m passionate about D11 succeeding and thriving and I believe that quality education begins with a strong community. I’m a blue-collar guy with a blue-collar perspective. I’m a small business owner so I know about budgets. I’ve been around the block so I know about bureaucracy.

Our kids need to be capable, prepared, and ready to thrive at the next level, be that tradeschools, apprenticeship/certification programs, or college. Our kids need to be “workforce ready” but they also need to be well-rounded Americans.

Improving Schools

What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools?  What would you maintain or change?

Our schools are amazing places. It’s hard. Everyone is amazing. Everyone deserves support and the opportunity to succeed and D11 staff are the best in the world when it comes to making that happen. So it’s a problem that schools are going back on watch lists. It’s a problem that organic community relations and open lines of communication are being marginalized and eroded at such a crucial time. There’s very little trust in the district right now, there’s historic levels of antagonism and ill-will, and that’s a shame. We can do better. The first thing I would do is reconsider the relationship between a Central Admin that lurches from emergency to emergency and struggles to retain staff and the individual schools that actually suffer the consequence. That is what’s causing so much dysfunction.

Curriculum

What types of curricula, including library books and materials, if any, do you believe should be added or removed from your district’s schools?  Why?

Kids should know the constitution and the Bill of Rights. Our kids should all be great at math, tech, AI, and all the stems AND ALSO know and understand what this thing called the American Project is all about. The kids need to learn freedom, responsibility, hard work and grit are essential components of a positive and fulfilling life.

Financial Stewardship

Depending on the size of their district, School Board Members decide how to spend $10s of millions of dollars, or even $100s of millions, in taxpayer money each year.  How would you seek to prioritize the funds being stewarded by your district’s School Board?

Keep the money close to the schools and stop wasting so much of it on experimentation that doesn’t produce results.

Technology

What do you believe is the proper balance of a student’s use of technology in education  —  such as cell phone use during school hours and incorporating artificial intelligence?

No cell phones during school hours and AI should be used properly to uplift students, families, and the community. We want a working society where children learn well and socialize with other people… not with AI robots. Normalizing the concept that children should be behaviorally manipulated and “nudged” into compliance only produces the kind of outcomes that contribute to the decline of our society, the erosion of trust and neighborliness, and ultimately destroys our economy.

Parental Role

What do you consider to be a parent’s role in a child’s education?  Do you believe that any information about a student should ever be withheld from a parent?

I’m a big believer in the family. The parents should have the paramount role in decisions about their child’s upbringing and education. That said, healthy families only work in healthy communities with healthy economies. Accepting permanent poverty as ‘inevitable’ in the America of 2025 only destroys healthy families and promotes the worst kinds of moral/spiritual promiscuity as well as social division. I support any and all families that do their best to love and raise the children of our community but I have a special place in my heart for all the strong fathers who teach their children to respect and strive. America is a special place and it’s worth fighting for.

Sex Ed

Why do you support or oppose comprehensive sexuality education, including LGBT health and relationship information, in public schools K to 12?  What are your positions regarding age appropriateness, curriculum transparency, and opt-in or -out policies?

I believe that parents and caregivers should have the right to opt-out of any sexual curriculum. I understand the world in which we live and I understand that many, if not most, kids find out about things of a sexual nature from a culture that is degrading and exploitive. Still, the answer isn’t for some bureaucrat to decide what “morality” is for our children.
We shouldn’t stick our heads in the sand either. We should use common sense. If kids have questions we should do our best to support those kids by supporting families as they navigate the complicated world in which we live.

Gender Issues

What are your views on gender issues in schools, including the use of preferred pronouns, discussing gender issues in the classroom, allowing students to use facilities and participate in sports activities not of their biological gender, and compliance with federal directives and law regarding gender issues?

I have two young daughters. I don’t want them to have to contend with any issues like that. I also have common sense and I’m a Christian. I know the world out there is chewing up the souls of many children, causing them great distress in ways that we can’t begin to fathom. I pray about it a lot. I refuse to bully children, any children. I also refuse to stoke to division and hatred in my community. If a kid out there is hurting, if they’re confused, or if they need help… I’m going to do my best to help them and not judge, bully, or condemn.

School Safety

As a School Board member, what changes would you want to make, if any, to help ensure a safe and secure environment for both the students and staff of your district?

I’m a big believer in school safety. I don’t think people can learn when they don’t feel safe. If we really want to stop a potential tragedy then I think we should be having more discussions about opening up the budget to more amazing people (I’m talking security personnel) being on site and empowered with the right tools to keep people safe. We’re blessed to have the veteran community that we do. They’re an amazing resource and we should try to utilize them in positive and effective ways.

School Board Meetings

What do you consider to be the appropriate balance between the authority of School Boards and the rights of the public to present their views during School Board meetings?

I believe communication is vital. I don’t think people should be ugly or disruptive during school board meetings, I don’t think people should bully or harass. That said, the 1st amendment is first for a reason. It’s part of what makes America exceptional. I was very sad to hear that in the recent past a nearby school district violated the civil rights of American citizens. I’m a firm believer that good speech is the antidote to bad speech and the only people who try to silence free speech are those who have zero confidence in the validity of their own arguments. Tyrants.

Teachers' Unions

Earlier this year, D11 did not renew its teachers’ union master agreement contract, after establishing it nearly 60 years ago. What, if any, do you believe the role of teachers’ unions should be in public education?

I believe communication is vital. I don’t think people should be ugly or disruptive during school board meetings, I don’t think people should bully or harass. That said, the 1st amendment is first for a reason. It’s part of what makes America exceptional. I was very sad to hear that in the recent past a nearby school district violated the civil rights of American citizens. I’m a firm believer that good speech is the antidote to bad speech and the only people who try to silence free speech are those who have zero confidence in the validity of their own arguments. Tyrants.

Occupation/Vocation:     Director CSSD11 and SSgt Colorado Air National Guard

Military Background (if any):     Airforce, Colorado Air National Guard

Resident of Pikes Peak Region & District:     Fifteen years all in District Eleven

Political Leanings

As a candidate in a nonpartisan School Board election, you are not officially associated with any specific political party.  How would you describe your political leanings (socially, fiscally, etc.) and why do you define yourself in this way?

I would describe myself as a conservative. I am running for the school board to prioritize student safety, academic excellence, parental rights, and school choice. I believe that students should be kept safe in every area of our schools, from the classroom to gender- specific sports and locker rooms, that the fundamental task of public education is to provide high-quality instruction, and that parents are their child’s first teachers and ultimate decision-makers.

Your Experience and Vision

What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as School Board Member that will benefit your district?  What is your vision to help ensure the highest quality education for your district’s students?

I am a proud D11 parent, member of the Colorado Air National Guard, and a 15-year employee in the district. I have seen first-hand how bureaucracy can hinder progress, and my experience uniquely positions me to know how and where we must improve. I believe we must streamline systems, move resources closer to the classroom, and empower educators to provide high-quality instruction.

Improving Schools

What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools?  What would you maintain or change?

One of D11’s greatest strengths is recent recommitment to academic excellence. However, the district still has a long way to go; more than half of D11 students cannot read or do math at grade level. One reason for this problem is the sheer volume of policy, (over 400 in total), that limits District Eleven’s ability to be agile and responsive in addressing challenges. Too often, bureaucracy stands in the way of meaningful progress. As a board member, one of my top priorities will be leading a comprehensive review of these policies. Streamlining and modernizing them will reduce unnecessary red tape and better equip our leadership to focus on what matters most: student success and achievement.

Curriculum

What types of curricula, including library books and materials, if any, do you believe should be added or removed from your district’s schools?  Why?

Outside of age-appropriate biology or health classes, I believe all graphic depictions of sexuality have no place in K-12 libraries. Schools must remain focused on academics, not distractions from learning.
Our curriculum should prioritize the fundamentals of reading, writing, and mathematics while also preparing students with the skills needed to succeed in higher education, careers, and life. Classrooms should remain free from political ideology, keeping instruction centered on academic growth and critical thinking.

The reasoning is simple: our responsibility is to equip students with a strong educational foundation, not promote ideology. By focusing on academics, we give every student the best opportunity to thrive.

Financial Stewardship

Depending on the size of their district, School Board Members decide how to spend $10s of millions of dollars, or even $100s of millions, in taxpayer money each year.  How would you seek to prioritize the funds being stewarded by your district’s School Board?

I believe funding should be student-centered, following the student to the school their family chooses. This approach not only empowers parents but also rewards success by highlighting our highest-performing teachers and school leaders. By expanding and replicating their proven practices across the district, we can raise academic outcomes for all of District Eleven.

At the same time, fiscal responsibility must remain a top priority. Through prudent budgeting and careful stewardship of taxpayer dollars, we can invest in modern, safe, and effective learning environments. My goal is to ensure that every dollar spent directly supports student achievement.

Technology

What do you believe is the proper balance of a student’s use of technology in education  —  such as cell phone use during school hours and incorporating artificial intelligence?

I believe cell phones should not be used during instructional time, as they are often a distraction from learning. If stored in lockers and accessed only during breaks or lunch, their presence in schools is acceptable. Regarding artificial intelligence, it has great potential as an educational tool, but its use must be balanced. Our first priority should always be ensuring students master the fundamentals of reading, writing, and mathematics which can and should be taught with minimal reliance on technology. Once students have a strong foundation in these core skills, technology, including AI, can be thoughtfully integrated to enhance learning rather than replace essential instruction.

Parental Role

What do you consider to be a parent’s role in a child’s education?  Do you believe that any information about a student should ever be withheld from a parent?

Parents are the cornerstone of a child’s development and must be fully informed and actively involved in their education. Nothing should ever be kept from the parent by the school or district. Transparency builds trust and ensures accountability. Parents are the ultimate decision makers when it comes to their child’s learning, well-being, and future.

Sex Ed

Why do you support or oppose comprehensive sexuality education, including LGBT health and relationship information, in public schools K to 12?  What are your positions regarding age appropriateness, curriculum transparency, and opt-in or -out policies?

I support sexual education that upholds parental rights and emphasizes both scientific accuracy and personal development. Parents should be allowed to opt their children out if they prefer to address these topics at home. Sexual education should focus on fundamental human biology, healthy relationships, and fostering students’ sense of self-worth beyond sexuality. Content must be age- appropriate and taught transparently, with curriculum materials readily available for parental review. I do not support teaching that there are more than two biological sexes, as this is scientifically inaccurate. Schools should present factual information and always respect families’ values.

Gender Issues

What are your views on gender issues in schools, including the use of preferred pronouns, discussing gender issues in the classroom, allowing students to use facilities and participate in sports activities not of their biological gender, and compliance with federal directives and law regarding gender issues?

I believe there are two genders, determined at birth, and schools should prioritize academics reading, writing, and mathematics over ideological discussions. Sports teams, locker rooms, and bathrooms should be separated by biological sex, unless a team is in coed sports. If a student feels uncomfortable using multi-user facilities, schools should offer access to a single-user restroom as an appropriate accommodation.

School Safety

As a School Board member, what changes would you want to make, if any, to help ensure a safe and secure environment for both the students and staff of your district?

Drawing on my military experience, I understand the importance of a visible and prepared security force. I would support expanding our district’s security personnel, ensuring they are properly trained, equipped, and authorized to protect students and staff. I would also strengthen partnerships with the Colorado Springs Police Department to ensure a consistent presence of trained, armed officers on all campuses.

School Board Meetings

What do you consider to be the appropriate balance between the authority of School Boards and the rights of the public to present their views during School Board meetings?

As someone who has sworn to uphold and defend the United States Constitution, I deeply respect every individual’s right to free speech. Public participation is vital to a transparent and accountable School Board. While maintaining order and safety is essential, restrictions should apply only to the structure, not the content of public comments.

Teachers' Unions

Earlier this year, D11 did not renew its teachers’ union master agreement contract, after establishing it nearly 60 years ago. What, if any, do you believe the role of teachers’ unions should be in public education?

Until 2024, D11 was the only district in the Pikes Peak region to maintain a master contract, which gave decision-making authority to an unelected corporation. I do not believe that the master contract benefited teachers. Having served in Colorado Springs School District 11 for fifteen years, I have seen firsthand how the master agreement often hindered innovation and limited efforts to improve student outcomes. Our district must prioritize students’ educational growth above all else.

BRUCE  COLE

Occupation/Vocation:     Retired Teacher

Military Background (if any):     Veteran

Resident of Pikes Peak Region & District:       20

Political Leanings

As a candidate in a nonpartisan School Board election, you are not officially associated with any specific political party.  How would you describe your political leanings (socially, fiscally, etc.) and why do you define yourself in this way?

I am a social and fiscal conservative. I believe in free market economics, limited government, and liberty.

Your Experience and Vision

What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as School Board Member that will benefit your district?  What is your vision to help ensure the highest quality education for your district’s students?

I am a retired, 18-year D-11 business teacher and small business owner. I spent my early career in pastoral ministry and have experience in the management of personnel and budgets. While teaching I also became involved in District committees where I have developed skills in financial management, HR, and employee benefits. I have often been called upon to mediate differences and am skilled in being able to objectively consider all sides of a disagreement and create compromise without diluting my personal values.

Improving Schools

What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools?  What would you maintain or change?

I know firsthand that D-11 is filled with incredible teachers, students, and parents. I am running for School Board to be a voice for them, because we have a long way to go in improving our district. We must continue to evaluate our curriculum to ensure that our students are learning to read. We need to tackle deferred maintenance on our current facilities, while facing the budget issues created by our declining enrollment and reduced state funding.

Curriculum

What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools?  What would you maintain or change?

Curriculum materials should be age appropriate, prioritizing academic rigor, and traditional values while fostering critical thinking and a balanced understanding of history and society. We should incorporate classical literature and foundational texts, expand civics education, and incorporate practical materials such as Personal Financial Literacy, Career and Technical education, and STEM. Sexually explicit content does not belong in the classroom.

Financial Stewardship

Depending on the size of their district, School Board Members decide how to spend $10s of millions of dollars, or even $100s of millions, in taxpayer money each year.  How would you seek to prioritize the funds being stewarded by your district’s School Board?

As a former non-profit executive and business owner, I understand how crucial it is that D11’s half-a- billion dollar, taxpayer funded budget is allocated with wisdom and integrity. Every dollar we spend should be able to answer the question, “how does this improve student success?”

Technology

What do you believe is the proper balance of a student’s use of technology in education  —  such as cell phone use during school hours and incorporating artificial intelligence?

I was in the classroom when D-11 led the way with a “no cell phone” policy, and watched its initial success become less effective with inconsistent enforcement. I support a “No Cell from Bell to Bell” policy, but it must be properly enforced and built upon to be effective.

Parental Role

What do you consider to be a parent’s role in a child’s education?  Do you believe that any information about a student should ever be withheld from a parent?

Parents are the ultimate authority in guiding their child’s education. They should have the power to choose educational environments that align with their families’ beliefs and goals. Parents, not schools, have a natural and moral responsibility to shape their child’s worldview.
Parents have a fundamental right to know about their child’s academic performance, behavior, health, and any issues arising at school, including mental health, ideological influences, and disciplinary actions. Parents should be able to trust that nothing is being hidden from them concerning their child.

Sex Ed

Why do you support or oppose comprehensive sexuality education, including LGBT health and relationship information, in public schools K to 12?  What are your positions regarding age appropriateness, curriculum transparency, and opt-in or -out policies?

Sex education should be age-appropriate and focused on biology, and parents should have the right to opt their student in or out. Comprehensive sex education often includes teaching children “sexual experiences,” and I believe this sort of curriculum has no place in public schools. I do not support comprehensive sexuality education due to concerns about age-appropriateness, parental rights, and the role of schools in moral and personal development. We need to protect childhood innocence. We should focus on rigorous academic instruction instead of personal topics like sexuality.

Gender Issues

What are your views on gender issues in schools, including the use of preferred pronouns, discussing gender issues in the classroom, allowing students to use facilities and participate in sports activities not of their biological gender, and compliance with federal directives and law regarding gender issues?

This issue comes down to creating a culture of truth and honesty with our students. There is a biological reality of gender. We must prioritize objective truth. Teachers and students should be free to use pronouns consistent with biological reality. Allowing biological males to access female spaces raises concerns about privacy and safety. Additionally, the issue of fairness must be acknowledged. Biological males should not be allowed to participate in girls’ sports.

School Safety

As a School Board member, what changes would you want to make, if any, to help ensure a safe and secure environment for both the students and staff of your district?

D11 has made progress for safety by assuring that every school has controlled access points. This is a great first step but it cannot be the only thing we do. I would like to expand our SRO programs to bring in professionals that become trusted community members who build relationships with our students and staff, while being able to respond decisively if needed.

School Board Meetings

What do you consider to be the appropriate balance between the authority of School Boards and the rights of the public to present their views during School Board meetings?

The role of the School Board is to make decisions on education policy, budgeting, and operations. The authority to do this job comes from the voters. It is essential to listen to the opinions and to give voice in an orderly method that prevents chaos. I support the current model of community comments within meetings.

Teachers' Unions

Earlier this year, D11 did not renew its teachers’ union master agreement contract, after establishing it nearly 60 years ago. What, if any, do you believe the role of teachers’ unions should be in public education?

I was a member of CSEA at a time when I believe the union truly wanted to partner with the district to improve educational outcomes. Sadly, that has changed. I have watched as the union has became more focused on ideology and rights instead of student learning. I believe the union has stunted the progress of the district and lost its focus on kids. I believe that the teacher’s union has become detrimental to students, parents, teachers and the community.

Political Leanings

As a candidate in a nonpartisan School Board election, you are not officially associated with any specific political party.  How would you describe your political leanings (socially, fiscally, etc.) and why do you define yourself in this way?

I am open to hearing the opinions of students, teachers, and parents–especially those who may have different opinions than mine, and I appreciate hearing points of view that may differ from my own.

Your Experience and Vision

What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as School Board Member that will benefit your district?  What is your vision to help ensure the highest quality education for your district’s students?

I attended elementary, junior high, and graduated high school with honors in School District 11. My parents both taught over 20 years in D11 and D20.

I was a “mathlete” on the math team for District 11 and applied my solid foundation in mathematics to accounting and financial analysis for both local nonprofits and in for profit technology companies. I have taught college students as well as counseled at-risk youth as a mental health worker locally. I have served D11 schools as a parent volunteer and I look forward to serving this community as a school board director applying my experience as a parent, as an educator, as well as financial skills while working cooperatively with the current board.

Improving Schools

What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools?  What would you maintain or change?

I want to maintain School District 11’s historically high standards of teacher education.

Curriculum

What types of curricula, including library books and materials, if any, do you believe should be added or removed from your district’s schools?  Why?

Financial Stewardship

Depending on the size of their district, School Board Members decide how to spend $10s of millions of dollars, or even $100s of millions, in taxpayer money each year.  How would you seek to prioritize the funds being stewarded by your district’s School Board?

Christian voting

Voting is a simple, yet significant way to do something about public policy in our country. As people of faith, we will be held accountable for our actions, as well as our lack of action. (Luke 12:48)

Biblical worldview

By diligently learning, applying, and trusting God’s truths in every area of our lives, we can begin to develop a deep comprehensive faith that will stand against the unrelenting tide of our culture’s non-biblical ideas.

Vote your values

The issues of the day change. Political parties and platforms change. God’s Word never changes. The vote of every Christian should be based on the principles of Scripture and not persuasive personalities.

Electing righteous leaders

Bad governance and our loss of freedom is the direct result of the church’s failure to disciple. When the citizenry do not seek to be obedient to God’s Law, they vote in wicked and corrupt candidates, who then trample underfoot the God-given liberties of the people.
