Political Leanings
As a candidate in a nonpartisan School Board election, you are not officially associated with any specific political party. How would you describe your political leanings (socially, fiscally, etc.) and why do you define yourself in this way?
I am a conservative with strong Christian values such as integrity, compassion, hard work, service, careful stewardship and forgiveness. I believe in protected constitutional rights including the free exercise of speech and religion. These are beliefs I was taught in my home and have held as a personal standard all my life.
Your Experience and Vision
What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as School Board Member that will benefit your district? What is your vision to help ensure the highest quality education for your district’s students?
In addition to small business ownership, I have a background in education including a bachelor’s degree in education. Along with classroom service for my own kids, I taught ELL with Catholic Charities for several years. For the last 10+ years I have been a performance-based classroom storyteller with the Taletellers, and held many teaching positions within my church. As I bring together my varied experiences I will strive to ensure education remains academically focused with age-appropriate content and environments, and supported teachers. I want to put systems and curriculum in place to help every child read at grade level, as well as think critically from a good knowledge base and communicate effectively and civilly.
Improving Schools
What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools? What would you maintain or change?
D20 has a wonderful cadre of dedicated teachers and administrators who truly care about the children they serve. However, behavioral disruptions in the classroom are causing widespread problems. Teachers need support and solutions in managing these difficult situations. D20 schools should be phone free and teachers given effective professional development that supports high academic levels. While there is some growth in academic areas, I would like to see more rapid and ubiquitous growth in key reading and math indicators. I also want to see political agendas removed from classroom culture and content.
Curriculum
What types of curricula, including library books and materials, if any, do you believe should be added or removed from your district’s schools? Why?
Given our limited space and impressionable audience, schools must maintain age-appropriate content and curriculum. Schools have the right and duty to curate content for students at all grade levels. This includes online content including websites and apps, library content and curriculum. Extreme violence, pornography, sexually explicit or other degrading content is inappropriate for kids and doesn’t belong in a school. This includes LGBTQ+ materials seeking to explicitly indoctrinate or instruct kids in such lifestyles. In addition, critical theory ideologies should not be the lens through which we instruct students in history or social studies. We should be surrounding kids with content with high moral values.
Financial Stewardship
Depending on the size of their district, School Board Members decide how to spend $10s of millions of dollars, or even $100s of millions, in taxpayer money each year. How would you seek to prioritize the funds being stewarded by your district’s School Board?
School budget dollars should be kept as close to the classroom and our academic goals as possible. I want to look at ways to save money by consolidating some curriculum across the district or certainly within school strands. We need to make sure monies spent are in alignment with district values and goals. Making sure we ask the “why” about a budget item is important to gauging the “how much” or “how soon” of the item.
Technology
What do you believe is the proper balance of a student’s use of technology in education — such as cell phone use during school hours and incorporating artificial intelligence?
It is clear smart phone use (and related devices) within the school day is harmful to student success. It impedes focus needed for student learning and teacher instruction, and interferes with relationship development. We become complicit with poor mental health and development as we continue to allow their use. Schools need to be phone free. AI is a powerful yet flawed tool that is not going away. Students should be taught how to use it, but also do work in class that is independent from AI use. We want students to develop a love for learning and good critical thinking skills with baseline knowledge they own.
Parental Role
What do you consider to be a parent’s role in a child’s education? Do you believe that any information about a student should ever be withheld from a parent?
Parents are a child’s first teacher. In fact, strong parental involvement in education is linked with higher student achievement, better attendance, stronger motivation, and improved behavior. Not only do we want our parents there, they have the right to be involved in the schools and to know what their kids are being taught. Schools and parents are partners in education. No information about a child should be withheld from their parents except in cases of suspected abuse which should be reported to appropriate authorities.
Sex Ed
Why do you support or oppose comprehensive sexuality education, including LGBT health and relationship information, in public schools K to 12? What are your positions regarding age appropriateness, curriculum transparency, and opt-in or -out policies?
Ideally parents or families will be the first and most comprehensive teachers of sexuality for their kids. Schools do have a responsibility to teach such topics as human anatomy and reproduction, facts about STD’s and contraception and so forth. Age appropriateness is imperative. Parents should be informed of and have the right to opt out of sex-ed curriculum they feel is in conflict with their values. More personal or social issues, including LGBT issues surrounding sexuality, or the “instructional how-to’s” should be left to the home.
Gender Issues
What are your views on gender issues in schools, including the use of preferred pronouns, discussing gender issues in the classroom, allowing students to use facilities and participate in sports activities not of their biological gender, and compliance with federal directives and law regarding gender issues?
I oppose allowing transgender athletes to participate in sports not in alignment with their biological sex. Restrooms and locker rooms also need to be safe places aligned with biological sex. While teachers may choose to use pronouns of a child’s choosing, such usage should be notified to parents and, under constitutional protections, should be optional for the teacher. Kindness and respect for all students should be emphasized and does not require adherence to and support of gender ideologies by other students.
School Safety
As a School Board member, what changes would you want to make, if any, to help ensure a safe and secure environment for both the students and staff of your district?
School safety involves more than vigilance against school shootings. It includes facilities maintenance and development of a culture that is positive and kind. We need to ensure school safety personnel are properly trained and located. Tools such as Safe2Tell should be taught and encouraged. And it may require asking for and spending monies for long-term solutions to crowded classrooms rather than temporary ones.
School Board Meetings
What do you consider to be the appropriate balance between the authority of School Boards and the rights of the public to present their views during School Board meetings?
We need to have respect on both sides for the work and time of the school board and public attendees at the meetings. Public voices are important and valued as they often bring insights and awareness to the board. Comments aimed at disruption and grandstanding do not serve the interests of students or respect the time of others in attendance. We must encourage civil behavior by adults in our community just as we do in our students.

Political Leanings
As a candidate in a nonpartisan School Board election, you are not officially associated with any specific political party. How would you describe your political leanings (socially, fiscally, etc.) and why do you define yourself in this way?
While this is a nonpartisan election, my values most closely align with conservative principles. Socially, I believe family, faith, and community form the foundation for strong schools. Fiscally, I prioritize accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. I define myself this way because I believe schools thrive when we respect parents’ rights, uphold high standards, and ensure that classrooms remain focused on academics and character. My approach balances fiscal responsibility with social responsibility, supporting educators and families while keeping policies consistent with community values. This ensures our schools reflect the priorities of those they serve, while remaining fiscally disciplined and educationally strong.
Your Experience and Vision
What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as School Board Member that will benefit your district? What is your vision to help ensure the highest quality education for your district’s students?
As a current D20 School Board Director, I understand the district’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth. I am experienced in the policy governance model that ensures strategic leadership and accountability. With decades of expertise in school safety, prevention, and policy including founding Safe2Tell, a nationally recognized model, I’ve worked with Congress, governors, and local leaders to strengthen school environments. My vision is to ensure every child has access to a safe, high-quality education in a supportive environment where teachers can focus on teaching and students can focus on learning. Recruiting and retaining excellent educators is critical to this vision. I’m committed to equipping staff with tools and support while holding our system to the highest standards of excellence.
Improving Schools
What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools? What would you maintain or change?
Our district’s greatest strengths are our dedicated teachers, staff, and engaged families. These partnerships form a strong foundation for student success. Like many districts, we face challenges in academic achievement, fiscal management, student behavior, and staff retention. Addressing these issues requires balancing accountability with meaningful support, aligning policies with federal executive orders, respecting state law, and protecting local decision-making. I am committed to raising academic standards, enforcing consistent and fair discipline, and ensuring educators have the resources and support they need to stay and thrive. By prioritizing high- quality teaching, strong community involvement, and sound policy, we can build on our strengths while directly confronting the challenges ahead.
Curriculum
What types of curricula, including library books and materials, if any, do you believe should be added or removed from your district’s schools? Why?
Curriculum must be academically rigorous, age-appropriate, and focused on core subjects like reading, math, science, and history. Schools should prepare students for college, careers, and responsible citizenship by emphasizing critical thinking and problem-solving. I support a thorough review of library books and instructional materials to ensure they reflect community standards and values. Content that is sexually explicit, divisive, or not developmentally appropriate should be removed. At the same time, we should add materials that enrich learning, expose students to innovation, and expand career pathways. Curriculum transparency for parents is essential, so families know exactly what is being taught and can trust that their children’s education is consistent with their values.
Financial Stewardship
Depending on the size of their district, School Board Members decide how to spend $10s of millions of dollars, or even $100s of millions, in taxpayer money each year. How would you seek to prioritize the funds being stewarded by your district’s School Board?
As School Board members, we are entrusted with millions of taxpayer dollars, and our responsibility is to maximize the return on that investment for students and families. I will prioritize spending that supports teachers, strengthens staff retention, and enhances classroom instruction. Eliminating waste and holding the district accountable for results are key to building trust. Funds should be directed to safe, well-maintained facilities, up-to-date learning materials, and programs that improve academic performance. Every financial decision must be made with transparency and with the goal of advancing student achievement. I will ensure taxpayer dollars are used wisely to support the classroom first, because when teachers and students succeed, our community thrives.
Technology
What do you believe is the proper balance of a student’s use of technology in education — such as cell phone use during school hours and incorporating artificial intelligence?
Technology is a valuable tool in education, but balance is critical. Cell phones should not disrupt learning, and I support policies that limit their use during instructional time while allowing responsible access when appropriate. Artificial intelligence and digital tools can enhance instruction but must be implemented thoughtfully to protect student privacy and promote critical thinking. Students should learn to use technology as a resource, not a crutch. Teachers need support and training to integrate technology effectively, and parents deserve transparency around its use. Ultimately, technology should supplement strong teaching and human connection, not replace them. Education is built on relationships, not just screens.
Parental Role
What do you consider to be a parent’s role in a child’s education? Do you believe that any information about a student should ever be withheld from a parent?
Parents are the primary stakeholders in their children’s education, and schools must partner with them, not replace them. Parents have the right to know what is being taught in classrooms and to be informed about their child’s progress and well-being. No information should be withheld from parents unless there is an immediate safety concern requiring professional intervention. Transparency and respect for parental authority build trust and ensure students receive consistent guidance both at home and at school. When families and schools work together, students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The parent-school partnership is vital to a strong education system, and I am committed to strengthening that bond.
Sex Ed
Why do you support or oppose comprehensive sexuality education, including LGBT health and relationship information, in public schools K to 12? What are your positions regarding age appropriateness, curriculum transparency, and opt-in or -out policies?
I do not support comprehensive sexuality education that introduces explicit material to K–12 students. Any instruction on this topic must be age-appropriate, transparent, and aligned with family and community values. Parents deserve a clear voice in these decisions and should have the ability to opt in or opt out based on their family’s preferences. Schools should prioritize academics and defer to parents on sensitive matters related to morality, relationships, and health. Students need a strong foundation in reading, math, science, and history, not lessons that may conflict with family beliefs or distract from core learning. Education is most effective when parents, not schools, lead on deeply personal topics such as sexuality.
Gender Issues
What are your views on gender issues in schools, including the use of preferred pronouns, discussing gender issues in the classroom, allowing students to use facilities and participate in sports activities not of their biological gender, and compliance with federal directives and law regarding gender issues?
Schools should focus on educating students, not advancing social agendas. I do not support policies that require staff or students to use pronouns inconsistent with biological sex, or that allow students to participate in sports or use facilities not aligned with their biological gender. These practices raise concerns about fairness, safety, and parental rights. While state laws must be acknowledged, local control and common-sense policies are essential to ensuring a balanced and respectful approach. I will advocate for policies that uphold the dignity of every student while prioritizing parental rights, student safety, and the integrity of school athletics and facilities. Education must stay focused on academics and student achievement.
School Safety
As a School Board member, what changes would you want to make, if any, to help ensure a safe and secure environment for both the students and staff of your district?
Student and staff safety must always be the top priority. I support strengthening threat assessment practices, expanding early intervention, and maintaining strong partnerships with law enforcement. School Resource Officers provide an important presence, but true safety also requires building trust and stability among teachers and staff. Retaining high-quality personnel is critical to preventing crises and responding effectively. Safe schools also depend on consistent discipline policies, clear communication with families, and fostering a culture of respect and accountability. I will work to ensure every student and staff member feels protected and supported so that classrooms remain places of learning, not fear. Safety is the foundation of education.
School Board Meetings
What do you consider to be the appropriate balance between the authority of School Boards and the rights of the public to present their views during School Board meetings?
School Board meetings must remain transparent, respectful, and accessible. The Board has an obligation to govern responsibly while ensuring the public has opportunities to share their views. Clear guidelines for public comment allow parents and community members to be heard while maintaining civility and order. I believe the best boards listen carefully, engage with respect, and remain accountable to the communities they serve. At the same time, board authority must be exercised to ensure efficient decision-making and consistent policies. Striking the right balance between strong governance and public input builds trust, strengthens transparency, and ensures that district priorities reflect community values and needs.

Occupation/Vocation: Clinical Psychologist
Military Background (if any): Army Veteran
Resident of Pikes Peak Region & District: I have lived in D20 for six and a half years
Political Leanings
As a candidate in a nonpartisan School Board election, you are not officially associated with any specific political party. How would you describe your political leanings (socially, fiscally, etc.) and why do you define yourself in this way?
I would describe myself as a conservative. I believe that our government ought to be as small as possible to be effective. The more powerful the government, the more strain on our liberty. That even goes for school boards, too. I believe that D20’s school board should prioritize academics, respect parental rights, and set high achieving expectations for our students.
Your Experience and Vision
What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as School Board Member that will benefit your district? What is your vision to help ensure the highest quality education for your district’s students?
I am a proud D20 parent, an Army combat Veteran and I am now a clinical psychologist working to help Veterans with PTSD. As a clinical psychologist, I am very focused on evidence-based outcomes and I think this is an essential element to maintain and improve our academic achievement. My research experience and experience with implementing evidence-based practices will help promote academic excellence for our students.
Improving Schools
What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools? What would you maintain or change?
Our D20 schools have been accredited with distinction for 17 years and that is a strength that we want to maintain. However, I believe that the academic state of our district is nowhere near the quality that I know it can be. Our students have a reported reading proficiency rate of 61% and 51% math proficiency and there is a lot of room for improvement. I think we can accomplish this by ensuring that we are using evidence-based practices such as using Science of Reading curriculum and more emphasis on training math instruction. Our district would also benefit from identifying efficiency measures so that more resources can be used to attract teaching talent.
Curriculum
What types of curricula, including library books and materials, if any, do you believe should be added or removed from your district’s schools? Why?
I believe all of our libraries should be curated to ensure that all of the materials are age appropriate and free of explicit content. I also believe that our early reading curriculum should be audited and that we ensure that Science of Reading content is focused on and taught with fidelity. Our teachers are dedicated professionals and have a lot of demands on their time. Ensuring that we are implementing evidence-based curriculum offers clarity, efficiency, as well as producing outcomes that everyone can take pride in.
Financial Stewardship
Depending on the size of their district, School Board Members decide how to spend $10s of millions of dollars, or even $100s of millions, in taxpayer money each year. How would you seek to prioritize the funds being stewarded by your district’s School Board?
The first thing I would like to do is take an audit on overhead expenditures. Our costs continue to bloat and at the same time, D20 has had to manage having low funding. The result has been to pass on more costs to our educators. I think we can prioritize funding on evidence-based curriculum and professional development aligned with that goal. An additional priority is physical safety and grounds maintenance. I have seen the same broken stalls in the bathrooms for 3 years and I am confident there is more that is in need of prioritization. Clean, functioning, safe schools promote a healthy learning environment.
Technology
What do you believe is the proper balance of a student’s use of technology in education — such as cell phone use during school hours and incorporating artificial intelligence?
I have been following the evidence on this topic and it has been clear that our students benefit from less time on their phones. I believe that a policy of no phone use during the school day would improve academic performance as well as social interactions. Artificial intelligence is going to be a key technology in the future. Our students should be introduced to it as well as learn how to use it effectively. In regards to academic work, I think it would be a benefit to teach our students cursive writing again and to have more paper tests to ensure that knowledge is acquired and reduce temptation to use AI for assignments.
Parental Role
What do you consider to be a parent’s role in a child’s education? Do you believe that any information about a student should ever be withheld from a parent?
I believe parents are the first educator of our students and the cornerstone of their moral development. I consider it important to make every effort to include parents in all key decisions associated with their child entrusted in our care. I believe that we do not co-parent with the government and that it is a responsibility to ensure that trust is not taken lightly. I do not think information regarding the student should be withheld from parents unless there is credible risk of harm. In those situations, Child Welfare services ought to be contacted rather than school officials withholding information from parents
Sex Ed
Why do you support or oppose comprehensive sexuality education, including LGBT health and relationship information, in public schools K to 12? What are your positions regarding age appropriateness, curriculum transparency, and opt-in or -out policies?
I believe that we should have full transparency of any curriculum and materials presented to students regardless of the topic. I do believe that all content should be age-appropriate and that parents and other relevant stakeholders should have a process to review and offer feedback. In terms of sexuality, I do not think it is an essential element of sex ed. If it is offered through the school, then sex-ed should be based solely on basic biological facts, age-appropriate, and opted-in by parents who can make an informed decision regarding their children.
Gender Issues
What are your views on gender issues in schools, including the use of preferred pronouns, discussing gender issues in the classroom, allowing students to use facilities and participate in sports activities not of their biological gender, and compliance with federal directives and law regarding gender issues?
I have spoken on these issues in recent years and have also testified against HB 1312. I also follow the evidence here and do not support the practice of “social transition” or use of preferred pronouns for a multitude of reasons. I recommend reading the Cass Report and HHS report. I have written about and support biological sex related segregation of sports and all facilities. Our D20 school board has decided to join other districts in a lawsuit to protect female sports and spaces and I fully support the action.
School Safety
As a School Board member, what changes would you want to make, if any, to help ensure a safe and secure environment for both the students and staff of your district?
Our school district has the benefit of having armed resource officers in all of our schools now and I think that is a benefit to maintain. D20 does have some schools that have external additions that have been used for prolonged usage. I think it would be beneficial to discuss strategies to improve security in this situations such as having a RSO patrolling the area to ensure security. For these facilities, it think it would be important to examine the costs and benefits to guide plans to either add necessary additions or consolidate spaces where appropriate to have more students within the primary structures.
School Board Meetings
What do you consider to be the appropriate balance between the authority of School Boards and the rights of the public to present their views during School Board meetings?
I believe that the school board should be responsive to the constituents who voted for them and those who did not. In the school board meeting, I think that it would be important to maintain good order and conduct with reasonable rules for decorum and engagement. It is important to note that open microphones are not the only way in which constituents and stakeholders can communicate to school board members. The current 2 minute limit is consistent with public comments at the state level and would be appropriate to maintain. I think the school board should take effort to hear comments with responsibility to all parties involved, including the staff who work a full day before the meeting as well.

Political Leanings
As a candidate in a nonpartisan School Board election, you are not officially associated with any specific political party. How would you describe your political leanings (socially, fiscally, etc.) and why do you define yourself in this way?
I am a very conservative Christian leader in my community standing for the God-given authority of parents over their children.
Your Experience and Vision
What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as School Board Member that will benefit your district? What is your vision to help ensure the highest quality education for your district’s students?
I have worked previously in a school district in the midwest
Improving Schools
What are the primary strengths and weaknesses of your district’s schools? What would you maintain or change?
I will work diligently to take all books, curriculum and programs out of the schools that do not contribute to their academic success and that were place to align with a transgender agenda and ideology
Curriculum
What types of curricula, including library books and materials, if any, do you believe should be added or removed from your district’s schools? Why?
As stated in the last question.
Financial Stewardship
Depending on the size of their district, School Board Members decide how to spend $10s of millions of dollars, or even $100s of millions, in taxpayer money each year. How would you seek to prioritize the funds being stewarded by your district’s School Board?
At the top of the list of priority is the academic achievement of the students. Curriculum is often changed without vetting the content, the cost and the outcome. Many times I have witnessed a change before the outcome can even be determined.
Technology
What do you believe is the proper balance of a student’s use of technology in education — such as cell phone use during school hours and incorporating artificial intelligence?
I do not believe that cell phones are necessary and are a distraction to the students in the classroom. They could always be put on a shelf in silent mode for means of emergency. There are far too many distractions in a classroom taking the attention away from learning and teaching.
Parental Role
What do you consider to be a parent’s role in a child’s education? Do you believe that any information about a student should ever be withheld from a parent?
The parent has ALL AUTHORITY over their children. Just because a parent enrolls a child in a public school does not determine they have given the school any authority over the child. All information should be readily available to a parent at any time it is requested. Nothing should be withheld and no one should tell a child to withhold anything from their parent at any time.
Sex Ed
Why do you support or oppose comprehensive sexuality education, including LGBT health and relationship information, in public schools K to 12? What are your positions regarding age appropriateness, curriculum transparency, and opt-in or -out policies?
I firmly oppose any school teaching any sex to the children. That is under the authority of the parent to decide when and how their child will receive that information.
Gender Issues
What are your views on gender issues in schools, including the use of preferred pronouns, discussing gender issues in the classroom, allowing students to use facilities and participate in sports activities not of their biological gender, and compliance with federal directives and law regarding gender issues?
God made man and woman. Anything other than that is not truth and should not be an issue in schools or anywhere otherwise.
School Safety
As a School Board member, what changes would you want to make, if any, to help ensure a safe and secure environment for both the students and staff of your district?
All schools should be a safe place for a parent to leave their child. If it is not safe, the parent should not leave a child there. This includes what is said and shown inside of a classroom as well as the perimeter of the school disallowing unsafe persons to enter.
School Board Meetings
What do you consider to be the appropriate balance between the authority of School Boards and the rights of the public to present their views during School Board meetings?
Every person that is a citizen of the United States of America has the right and the freedom to speak.

Christian voting
Voting is a simple, yet significant way to do something about public policy in our country. As people of faith, we will be held accountable for our actions, as well as our lack of action. (Luke 12:48)
Biblical worldview
By diligently learning, applying, and trusting God’s truths in every area of our lives, we can begin to develop a deep comprehensive faith that will stand against the unrelenting tide of our culture’s non-biblical ideas.
Vote your values
The issues of the day change. Political parties and platforms change. God’s Word never changes. The vote of every Christian should be based on the principles of Scripture and not persuasive personalities.
Electing righteous leaders
Bad governance and our loss of freedom is the direct result of the church’s failure to disciple. When the citizenry do not seek to be obedient to God’s Law, they vote in wicked and corrupt candidates, who then trample underfoot the God-given liberties of the people.
