Occupation/Vocation: District Attorney, 20th Judicial District (elected 2018, 2020, and 2024)
Resident of Colorado: 16 years
Experience and Vision
What leadership experience (personal, professional, fiscal, other) would you bring to the role of Attorney General that will benefit our State? What is your vision for being our Attorney General, and what do you see as the biggest challenges facing the A.G.’s office?
I am a candidate with experience in the Colorado Attorney General’s office, where I served as Deputy Attorney General. My 29-year career includes leading the Sex Crimes Unit in the Manhattan DA’s office as Deputy Chief and then managing the entire office of 1,300 staff. I have been serving as District Attorney since 2018, having re-elected in 2020 and 2024.
In addition to leading large law offices, I have handled major cases including the King Soopers mass murder the Pearl Street firebombing case.
My professional life has been dedicated to a resolute fight for public safety, civil rights and equality, a mission that will remain my highest priority. We are living through a challenging time in Colorado. I am ready.
Constitution Duties and Civil Liberties
How will you interpret and uphold the U.S. and Colorado Constitutions, including protecting civil liberties such as free speech, religious exercise, and equal protection under the law? How would you respond if you believe a state law or action conflicts with constitutional requirements?
In this crucial moment, it is essential that the People’s Lawyer possesses the necessary legal and leadership experience to be effective from day one.
I have the experience to hit the ground running —and experience is vital for tackling issues such as the rule of law, public safety, the well-being of our young people, Colorado’s water, environmental protection, consumer safeguards, workers’ rights, civil rights, and defending our democracy.
As Attorney General, I will work hard to ensure that proposed legislation does not conflict with constitutional requirements before it is passed into law. I have been working with the Legislature for 15 years. If a state law is passed that directly conflict with constitutional requirements, I will not defend it.
Constitutional Compatibility
Many Christians are concerned about ideologies that place the state, the collective, or religious law above individual liberty and limited constitutional government. Do you believe socialism, communism, or political movements seeking to impose religious law — including Islamic Sharia law — are compatible with America’s constitutional representative democracy? Why or why not?
I do not believe that socialism, communism, or political movements seeking to impose religious law — including Islamic Sharia law — are compatible with America’s constitutional representative democracy.
I will defend our constitutional representative democracy. It is the foundation of our country.
Supporting Law Enforcement
As Attorney General, what policies will you seek to advance that will help law enforcement improve community safety? What will your approach be to working with other law enforcement agencies and organizations?
I have made public safety in our state a priority – not just for the campaign, but for my entire career. Public safety has suffered in Denver for the past several years. I will address it and help improve community safety. That’s why I am the Democratic candidate with endorsements from leaders in law enforcement, District Attorneys, former U.S. Attorneys, and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Additionally, the Attorney General is in charge of training for all law enforcement throughout the state. That provides an opportunity to increase the support, training, and required standards for law enforcement. I supervised that unit in the AG’s Office years ago. I have a plan to better support law enforcement and community safety.
Drug Enforcement
As Attorney General, how will you approach drug enforcement in Colorado, including the opioid crisis? What specific, actionable steps will you take to counter drug gangs and cartels operating in Colorado and trafficking substances like fentanyl?
I will provide more support to local law enforcement and prosecutors, with the goal being to bring down dealers and crime rings. I will continue to fight for treatment for people struggling with addiction.
I will take my Drug Diversion Program statewide. I will continue to support opioid settlement funds being used at the local level as opposed to a top-down approach.
In the response to the fentanyl crisis, I helped secure a new law to prosecute Drug Distribution Resulting in Death. Our office is widely regarded as a leader in these tragic cases. I worked on the bill to provide $37 million dollars for treatment. We need to provide more treatment while ensuring there are consequences for criminal behavior.
Investigating Elections
As Attorney General, how will you thoroughly and impartially investigate accusations of election-related violations within the scope of your legal authority?
As I have throughout my entire career, I will do justice without fear or favor. I have prosecuted police officers, elected officials and members of my own party. I will thoroughly and impartially investigate accusations of elected-related violations. If charges are not brought, I will info the public as to why and present the information in a clear, concise manner.
I am committed to restoring trust in our democracy.
Working with Other States and Federal Agencies
How will you work with other States’ Attorneys General and Federal agencies on issues of national importance?
The collaboration with other States’ Attorneys General is important for issues on the national level. That’s why I have already met with several of them. From my work as a District Attorney, I know how important it is to partners in community and, also, in the legal field. I am committed to working closely with others on issues of importance
Independence and Legal Judgment
The Attorney General may face pressure from elected officials, agencies, or public opinion. How would you maintain independent legal judgment when deciding whether to defend, challenge, or decline to support a law or executive action?
For nearly 30 years, I have been a prosecutor and a leader. I have never, and will never, bow to pressure from others when justice is on the line. I’m running for Attorney General because Colorado needs a lawyer to be its top lawyer and chief law enforcement officer. I grew up the grandson of immigrants, worked nights at UPS as a Teamster to pay for school, attended community college, and earned my way into one of the toughest public law offices in the country.
Accountability and Transparency
How would you ensure transparency in the Attorney General’s office — particularly in decisions about prosecutions, legal opinions, and participation in lawsuits — while still protecting sensitive legal matters?
Consumer Protection and Fraud
What strategies would you prioritize to protect Colorado consumers from fraud, scams, and deceptive business practices, including emerging threats such as cyber crime?
The following are some of those strategies:
Algorithmic rent pricing — anticompetitive and driving up housing costs; AG has antitrust authority.
Corporate landlords — consumer protection enforcement on illegal lease terms and deceptive practices.
Mortgage fraud — will pursue lenders and servicers that cheat Colorado homeowners.
Scams targeting seniors and students — will make elder fraud a top enforcement priority. More crime prevention presentations, increase crime ring investigations, and push phone and email providers to limit spam and scams.
I’ve recently partnered with the AG’s office to recover a million dollars for students cheated by their landlord. That’s a preview of what I’ll do for every Colorado family as AG.
Use of State Legal Resources
How would you determine when it is appropriate to initiate or join lawsuits—particularly multi-state litigation involving the federal government — and how would you ensure taxpayer resources are used responsibly in those efforts?
I will defend Colorado from a federal government that is testing every limit of its legal authority. I will only join in multi-state litigation if the issues violates the rule of law and harms Colorado
The most effective tool against federal overreach is a coalition of state attorneys general who can file and win in court. I have already joined multistate actions defending birthright citizenship. As AG, I will lead those coalitions.

Christian voting
Voting is a simple, yet significant way to do something about public policy in our country. As people of faith, we will be held accountable for our actions, as well as our lack of action. (Luke 12:48)
Biblical worldview
By diligently learning, applying, and trusting God’s truths in every area of our lives, we can begin to develop a deep comprehensive faith that will stand against the unrelenting tide of our culture’s non-biblical ideas.
Vote your values
The issues of the day change. Political parties and platforms change. God’s Word never changes. The vote of every Christian should be based on the principles of Scripture and not persuasive personalities.
Electing righteous leaders
Bad governance and our loss of freedom is the direct result of the church’s failure to disciple. When the citizenry do not seek to be obedient to God’s Law, they vote in wicked and corrupt candidates, who then trample underfoot the God-given liberties of the people.
