Occupation/Vocation:       Land Surveyor

Resident of the El Paso County       35 years

What experience (personal, professional, other) would you bring to your role as Surveyor that will benefit our county?

I am the current El Paso County Surveyor. Colorado State statute requires that the County Surveyor be licensed by the State. I have been a Colorado licensed land surveyor for 38 years. License #22573. I have a B.S. degree in Land Surveying from Ferris State University, 1979. My entire 43 year professional career has been in land surveying.

1979-2000 I worked for a mid-sized engineering and land surveying company. 2000-2011 I owned my own land surveying company. 2011-2015 I worked in the oil fields of North Dakota. 2015-2018 I worked for El Paso County DOT.

My wife of 40 years, Kimberly, and I raised all three of our children here in Colorado Springs.

What is your vision for being our County Surveyor?

My vision as the County Surveyor is to always be accessible to the public and to County offices. I also want to continue to maintain the high standards established between the County Surveyor and the Clerk and Recorder’s office for depositing Land Survey Plats.

What are the biggest challenges for the El Paso County Surveyor and the Surveyor’s office, and how do you plan to address them moving forward?

When I am contacted by citizens, it is usually to see if their property has been surveyed. I search the County records and communicate with them on what I found. I would like to make it easy for citizens to do this research for themselves. Each year hundreds of Land Survey Plats are deposited with the Clerk and Recorder’s office after I review and accept them. These are public records. I would like to establish a search page so citizens can put in their address and find out what surveys have been submitted in their area. From that they can make an informed decision. This will be a very challenging project and may take some time to accomplish.

Christian voting

Voting is a simple, yet significant way to do something about public policy in our country. As people of faith, we will be held accountable for our actions, as well as our lack of action. (Luke 12:48)

Biblical worldview

By diligently learning, applying, and trusting God’s truths in every area of our lives, we can begin to develop a deep comprehensive faith that will stand against the unrelenting tide of our culture’s non-biblical ideas.

Vote your values

The issues of the day change. Political parties and platforms change. God’s Word never changes. The vote of every Christian should be based on the principles of Scripture and not persuasive personalities.

Electing righteous leaders

Bad governance and our loss of freedom is the direct result of the church’s failure to disciple. When the citizenry do not seek to be obedient to God’s Law, they vote in wicked and corrupt candidates, who then trample underfoot the God-given liberties of the people.
